                 FROM OUR PAST
From the Parish Magazine July 1932

Whitsun at Winchester July 1935

The Parochial Outing on Whit Monday proved a delightful occasion. It seems a pity that more do not avail themselves of this opportunity for communal merrymaking. The day was uniformly fine and the objective well worth a visit.
Most of us spent the major portion of the time at Winchester on and in the roof of the Cathedral. You will be told that this is hyperbole. If it is then someone else ought to write this article. I have no doubt that the inside of the building is interesting if they would let you see it I take my hat off to the ladies who for the first and ;probably the last time in their lives walked up a roof.
The tea was excellent; I feel sure there is a way if eating pastries without getting jam on one’s elbows and in one’s hair; if there is, none seems to have learnt it.
Our return journey was by Basingstoke, and by Virginia Water to Egham where we STOPPED. One or two of the baser sort essayed a little vocal and instrumental harmony. I have no
doubt that they at any rate were amused.
A most enjoyable day which I feel sure many
more would thoroughly enjoy.
